Exec summary

Five widely cited DCIM / hybrid-ops platforms from 2025 industry roundups (Data Centre Magazine and practitioner listings)—not a current Gartner Magic Quadrant Leaders set. There is no verified public 2024–2026 Gartner DCIM MQ; the last well-known MQ was 2014 (Leaders then: Schneider Electric, Emerson Network Power / Vertiv lineage, CA Technologies, Nlyte). Positioning today: Schneider EcoStruxure IT (Data Center Expert + IT Expert + IT Advisor + NetBotz) bridges facility power/cooling and IT assets with cloud and on-prem options; Vertiv has discontinued Trellis (EOL ~2021; contract support ended ~2023 per Uptime/DCD coverage) and now markets Environet / Environet Alert / cloud Environet Connect—power/thermal monitoring rather than full Trellis-class IT asset DCIM; Sunbird dcTrack + Power IQ is the pure-play asset/capacity/change + power-monitoring suite with published US list subscription cues; Nlyte (Carrier Global since 2021; part of Carrier QuantumLeap) emphasizes asset lifecycle, capacity, ITSM workflows, and energy optimization; Device42 (Freshworks since Jun 2024) is discovery-first hybrid ITAM/CMDB with DCIM visualization—stronger for auto-discovery/dependency maps than as a facility BMS/power-cooling DCIM. Most vendors are quote-based; only Sunbird publishes clear public $/cabinet and $/node subscription bands (US).

Comparison

Schneider EcoStruxure IT Vertiv Environet family Sunbird dcTrack + Power IQ Nlyte (Carrier) Device42 (Freshworks)
Architecture / product naming Suite: Data Center Expert (DCE) on-prem monitoring; IT Expert cloud multi-site monitoring; IT Advisor digital-twin planning/modeling; NetBotz env/security sensors. Vendor-agnostic messaging; liquid-cooling monitoring (Motivair) expanding 2025–26. (Confidence: High) Current: Environet (facility/power/thermal DCIM-style monitoring from Geist lineage); Environet Alert (lighter SMB/edge monitoring—vendor says not full-scale DCIM); Environet Connect (cloud fleet mgmt, NA launch Aug 2024). Legacy: Trellis discontinued (EOL; support to ~2023). Aperture / Data Center Planner also discontinued. Roundups that still say “Trellis” are stale. (Confidence: High on EOL; Med on how buyers should SKU Environet vs Alert vs Connect) dcTrack = DCIM Operations (asset, capacity, change, cable, viz); Power IQ = DCIM Monitoring (power, energy, environment, cabinet security). Standalone or suite. v9.3 GA Dec 2025. On-prem VMs (VMware/Hyper-V/Nutanix/KVM/AWS) or hosted SaaS. (Confidence: High) Nlyte Asset Optimizer (lifecycle, capacity, workflows, compliance) + Nlyte Energy Optimizer (power/cooling analytics, alarming) + monitoring. Part of Carrier QuantumLeap / IDCM story with Automated Logic BMS adjacency. v16 Nov 2025. On-prem or cloud/hosted. (Confidence: High) Single platform: agentless hybrid IT discovery, dependency mapping, ITAM, IPAM, rack/room DCIM viz, power/env monitoring add-ons. Virtual appliance (self-host) + cloud/AWS deploy paths. Owned by Freshworks (closed Jun 2024). (Confidence: High)
Strengths Facility↔IT bridge; power/cooling/thermal + asset capacity; digital twin what-ifs (Advisor); cloud monitoring for edge/colo (IT Expert); multi-vendor device support; EcoStruxure Building / PME adjacency path. (High) Deep power/thermal telemetry for Vertiv (and multi-vendor via SNMP/Modbus/BACnet) fleets; edge-to-core monitoring; Connect for multi-site provisioning/firmware/alarms; Alert as affordable monitoring without full DCIM. (High for monitoring; Low–Med as full IT-asset DCIM vs Trellis era) Ease-of-use / fast deployment narrative; rich 2D/3D rack & cable viz; ServiceNow certified app; vendor-neutral PDU/UPS plugins; public US list pricing; unlimited users; rack- or node-based licensing. (High) Mature asset lifecycle + MAC workflows; ITSM/CMDB integrations (ServiceNow, BMC, etc.); capacity for space/power/cooling; regulated-industry / audit messaging; Carrier thermal + BMS ecosystem adjacency. (High) Continuous auto-discovery across physical/virtual/cloud; application dependency maps; IPAM + warranty/SSL; CMDB freshness; migration/modernization use cases; DCIM heatmaps/power for IT ops. (High for discovery/ITAM; Med as pure facility DCIM)
Typical fit Enterprise / colo with Schneider plant or multi-vendor hybrid IT needing unified monitoring + capacity digital twin; distributed edge estates wanting cloud DCIM. Operators with Vertiv UPS/cooling/rPDU fleets needing monitoring/fleet mgmt; SMB/edge wanting Alert; colo/edge multi-site Connect—not a 1:1 Trellis replacement for full IT asset DCIM. Teams wanting focused second-gen DCIM (asset + power + viz) without buying a full BMS/building suite; pure-play DCIM RFPs. Process-heavy enterprises, colo, regulated buyers needing lifecycle + ITSM-aligned change/audit; sites already in Carrier cooling/BMS orbit. IT-centric inventory across DC + cloud; CMDB/discovery source of truth; weaker primary pick when the RFP is facility power/cooling/BMS-grade DCIM.
Caveats Can be heavy / multi-SKU if you only need asset/cable DCIM; probe which modules (DCE vs ITE vs ITA) are in the quote; list $/seat not publicly catalogued. (Med on commercial packaging complexity) Naming ambiguity: Data Centre Magazine Sep 2025 still cites “Trellis and Liebert suites”—treat as outdated. Environet Alert is explicitly not full DCIM. Trellis IT-device depth not claimed for Environet. No public list pricing found. (High caveat) BMS / physical security / deep CFD still sibling tools; facility items via monitoring nodes—model UPS/CRAC node counts in TCO. Pricing page notes US offer. (High) Implementation discipline required for ROI; full platform breadth can mean longer rollout; no public list $/seat found. Carrier customer-count claims are vendor PR—do not treat as independent audit. (Med) Facility power-chain / thermal DCIM depth thinner than Sunbird/Schneider/Nlyte; Freshworks roadmap/integration trajectory still maturing post-acquisition; no public $/device list on device42.com. (Med–High)

Analyst framing (short): Shortlist follows 2025 Data Centre Magazine top-provider / top-platform roundups plus Gartner Peer Insights market listing presence—not MQ ranks. Historical 2014 MQ Leaders included Schneider, Emerson (Vertiv lineage), CA, and Nlyte; that report is historical only.

When to shortlist

Use case Lean toward Skip / de-prioritize when…
Schneider power/cooling plant already installed; need facility + IT closed loop + digital twin Schneider EcoStruxure IT (pair DCE/ITE with Advisor) You only need lightweight asset/cable DCIM and will not use power/thermal modules
Vertiv-heavy UPS/cooling/rPDU fleet; edge multi-site monitoring; want cloud fleet mgmt Vertiv Environet Connect and/or Environet / Alert You need Trellis-class IT asset + workflow DCIM as SoR—shortlist Sunbird/Nlyte/Schneider instead and treat Vertiv as telemetry
Pure-play DCIM RFP: assets, capacity, change, cable, power viz; want public price anchor Sunbird dcTrack + Power IQ You need deep BMS/building automation or discovery-first hybrid cloud CMDB as primary
Regulated / audit-heavy MACs; ITSM-aligned lifecycle; Carrier cooling/BMS adjacency Nlyte Asset Optimizer (+ Energy Optimizer) You want discovery-led hybrid ITAM/CMDB first (Device42) or only rack-power monitoring
Auto-discovery, dependency maps, IPAM, hybrid DC+cloud inventory / migration Device42 Primary need is facility EPMS/thermal what-if / digital twin DCIM (Schneider Advisor, Sunbird+Power IQ, Nlyte Energy)
“Replace Trellis” migration Sunbird, Nlyte, or Schneider—run bake-off; use Vertiv Environet only if scope is monitoring Assuming Environet = Trellis feature parity without a gap analysis

Buyer probes

Schneider EcoStruxure IT

  1. Which SKUs are in the quote—DCE vs IT Expert vs IT Advisor vs NetBotz—and how do live alarms from DCE/ITE feed Advisor digital-twin capacity without double data entry?
  2. Demonstrate multi-vendor (non-Schneider) UPS/PDU/CRAC + liquid-cooling device coverage and any Cooling Optimize / CFD claims on our hall layout.

Vertiv Environet family

  1. Confirm current licensed product names (Environet / Alert / Connect)—prove Trellis is out of support for our contracts—and map which Trellis IT-asset/workflow features are not in Environet.
  2. For Environet Connect: multi-tenant MSP model, third-party device coverage, and data residency / cloud region options for our edge sites.

Sunbird dcTrack + Power IQ

  1. POC end-to-end: import our rack spreadsheet → reserve capacity → work order with port-level cable instructions → live Power IQ branch-circuit overlay (v9.3 feature).
  2. Price the suite vs a la carte using published US list ($27.50/cabinet/mo suite incl. 2 monitoring nodes)—how many extra nodes for our UPS/RPP/CRAC population, and SaaS vs on-prem delta?

Nlyte (Carrier)

  1. Show Asset Optimizer ↔ ServiceNow/BMC bidirectional sync and an audit-ready MAC workflow for a regulated change (who/what/when).
  2. Clarify QuantumLeap / Automated Logic BMS integration scope vs Nlyte-only license—what is optional Carrier thermal stack vs core DCIM?

Device42

  1. Discovery accuracy POC: agentless sweep of a representative VLAN + hypervisor + cloud account; measure false positives/duplicates vs our CMDB.
  2. Facility diligence: which PDU/UPS/CRAC models provide live power/thermal in DCIM views, and what remains manual vs Sunbird Power IQ / Schneider DCE?

Cross-vendor packaging flags (do not paper over for clients):

  • No 2024–2026 Gartner DCIM MQ Leaders list — do not invent one; Peer Insights is a listing, not ranks we verified.
  • Vertiv naming: Trellis is legacy/EOL; Environet Alert ≠ full DCIM; Sep 2025 roundup still naming Trellis is stale.
  • Pricing: Only Sunbird publishes clear public US subscription list bands; Schneider / Vertiv / Nlyte / Device42 are quote-based (Device42: annual by device count, no $ on public pricing page).
  • Gartner Peer Insights page challenged/blocked to fetch provider — open in browser; cite as market listing only.
  • Vertiv Environet product page geo/partner-gated for some fetch paths — corroborate via Alert page + Connect PR + DCD/Uptime Trellis EOL article.
